Welcome to Doe Run Elementary School. The 2025-26 school year is going to be filled with lots of fun activities and learning opportunities for our students. Our teachers and staff are dedicated to ensuring that we are meeting the needs of all of our students in order for them to reach their full potential. As a district we strive to have our teachers, administrators, and learners view themselves as Difference Makers who use their talents and gifts to make a positive impact on the school and community.   

My name is Art Paynter and I am the principal at Doe Run Elementary School. It is very exciting to be in my tenth year in the Manheim Central School District. Manheim has always been a community of great pride and it is an honor to serve the students, teachers, families, and community. I am entering my 26th year in education as a teacher and administrator. As a teacher, I taught Kindergarten and First Grade at Wharton Elementary where I learned the importance of early literacy and the value of students starting their school experience in a positive way. Previously, I spent four years as the principal of George Washington Elementary in the School District of Lancaster, which taught me the significance of a positive school climate and the possibilities that are present when schools collaborate within themselves and the community.  

As a parent myself, I relate to the many challenges our children face today and it strengthens my own efforts in ensuring our students are surrounded by caring adults who will afford them every opportunity to achieve and be successful. 

I look forward to partnering with you to make Doe Run Elementary the very best it can be by looking at each of our learners as individuals who learn in different ways and at various rates. This challenges all of us to know each learner and find ways to connect them to their learning.  

Together we can make this an impactful and special year for all of our students.

My name is Christopher Sherwood, and I am thrilled to continue my educational journey in the Manheim community as the Assistant Principal at Doe Run Elementary School. I come to this role with a rich background in education and a strong commitment to fostering a supportive and enriching environment for all our students.

I am a proud graduate of Penn State University and Wilkes University, and I have dedicated the past 26 years to public education. During my tenure at Manheim Central, I have had the privilege of teaching alternative education and math/pre-algebra to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Most recently, I served as the Dean of School Culture at the Middle School, where I focused on creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere for our students.

As a father, I deeply understand the thrills and nerves that go along with parenting. This personal experience drives my commitment to seeing every student as an individual and ensuring that we meet their unique needs. I believe in providing the kind of support and opportunities that I would want for my own children.
